Nuala Deering is an accredited psychotherapist with the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), and a qualified psychosexual therapist. She has over twenty years’ experience in the field of counselling and psychotherapy - working with individuals and couples - specialising in relationship and psychosexual therapy. She has a special interest in mental health, and covers themes - in one-to-one sessions or in couples - of personal and work-related stress, anxiety and panic, depression, trauma, including self-esteem, sexual abuse, and the impact of separation on teenagers. Nuala has run Mindwise for fifteen years from her private practice in Stepaside.
In 1991, Nuala joined Marriage Relationship Counselling Services (MRCS) - now called Relationships Ireland - where she qualified as a couple therapist (and continues to work with the organisation today). She is also a qualified nurse and midwife, and spent a number of years practising in London before returning to Dublin. Nuala, upon returning to Ireland, spent the following twelve years working for the Cluain Mhuire psychiatric services of St John of Gods Stillorgan, before moving into therapy.
Committed to ongoing professional development, Nuala regularly attends training and assessment courses, supervises sessions, and fulfils any ongoing accreditation commitments.
Nuala believes that people can reach much greater levels of personal power, through recognition of an issue and effective mental health management. This process begins with the exploration of past experiences, to achieve a better understanding of relationships and how to work effectively on these issues.
Nuala is also an experienced media contributor. Her work has been featured by the Irish Times, the Irish Independent, the Journal, RTE, TV3 and Newstalk.
